We begin this series of “memories of bardai yesteryear”, showcasing artefacts of images, videos and writing from our bardai past history both in the UK and abroad.
This will be a growing feature, and we hope to capture our past history and culture for future generations. If anyone has recollections or artefacts that you can share, please let us know by using the contact page.
So far, we have added this introduction section – Bardai Nani Nat gathering around 1924/25 in Porbandar (India).
Links to navigate the different sections also appear at the bottom of each section.
1. Bardai Nani Nat gathering around 1924/25 in Porbandar (India).
This is a rare photo of our Bardai Nani Nat gathering around 1924/25 in Porbandar (India), sent to us by Dr Kishor Thankey (Nuneaton, UK). His father, Lalji Shamji Thankey, was a volunteer and he is on the top row on the right, first person.
This photo was given to Dr Thankey by Shri Parshotambhai Kalidas Joshi (of Joshi Photo Studio). As far as Dr Thankey remembers, this photo was taken by Harjivanbhai from Portrait Art Studio near the Old Post Office, M G Road Porbandar. Beauty of this photo is we have one lady volunteer (3rd row from the bottom). Not sure if Trikamjibapu attended this smhelan or not.
